The newly elected fifth Executive Committee of the NITER Journalists’ Association formally began its tenure with a courtesy call on the Director of the National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research (NITER), Dr Md Ashekul Alam Rana. During the meeting, the committee exchanged views on its future plans, organisational activities, and the promotion of responsible campus journalism.
The meeting was attended by NITER Registrar Badrul Haider Chowdhury, Moderator of the NITER Journalists’ Association and Lecturer Prosenjit Sen, and Co-Moderator and Lecturer Md Redwanul Islam. Also present were the Association’s newly elected President Mithun Chandra Das Mithu, Vice-President Labiba Salwa Islam, General Secretary Sifar Haider Shibib, along with other members of the Executive Committee.
Following the meeting, the Association launched its activities through a tree plantation programme on the NITER campus as part of the nationwide “250 Million Trees in Five Years” campaign announced by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman. As part of the initiative, the committee planted seven saplings, including five fruit-bearing trees—one wood apple, two Thai guava trees, one jujube tree, and one year-round lime tree—as well as two night-flowering jasmine (Shiuli) trees.
